Watch: Raven-Symone Says Caitlyn Jenner is Moving Too Fast With Her Activism

"Raven-Symoné, whose hair is superb, by the way, made some interesting comments today on The View regarding Caitlyn Jenner. Raven, who's known for making some fairly inflammatory, if not obtuse, statements (but who is excellent at rolling her eyes at conservative anti-gay bakery supporter Candace Cameron Bure), asserted that Caitlyn is moving too fast in her LGBT activism."

Caitlyn is 65 and never got to truly live until recently.  I think she can move as fast as she wants.  Hell, I'm 46 and find myself making up for lost time.

I also don't think trans activism is moving fast enough, as it seems we're still second class citizens in most of the US.

Maybe Raven-Symone should talk about things she knows better about.

I agree with Jill F.  It doesn't appear as though Caitlyn is moving too fast at all.  Caitlyn is smart and she's handled her coming out and transition with so much confidence and expertise.  She's got this, "nothing can stop me" spirit about her.  We need her and she's wonderful!  Raven-Symone could take lessons from her.

Jill nailed it.

I just watched the first episode of "I am Cait," and while parts of Ms. Jenner's activist persona seemed a bit scripted and forced, she also seemed sincere in her feelings, especially about suicide among trans youth. I'm sure that some of it is concocted by her publicists, but I don't actually give a damn. She's in a position to do a lot of good, and I'm all for her.

And who is this Raven-Symoné person anyway, and why should I care what she thinks? I bet she's just jealous.

I would like to add that any time a well know public figure comes out in any way they are more or less thrust into the public light and into the expectations of activism that that brings with it. She can either wait around for people to ask her lots of questions by the press or move forward on her own and make her stand without outside forces effecting her.

If she had simply come out as gay and then spoke out regularly on the subject of gay marriage no one would question anything about moving too fast, but people are still reeling in shock at her sudden transformation and the idea that they have to get used to this new jenner who looks diffrent and has a real agenda beyond looking good for the camera is too much for many people. Even those who are close to us often have trouble understanding that for the majority of us by the time we reveal ourselves to the world we have already spent a very long time getting used to who we are and desperatlly need to be out there living our lives, not slowly toeing our way into the pool, but diving right in and learning the back stroke when we have time.

Serena, who is sure she mangled a few metaphores in there.

Is it the depressed little voice inside? Whispering in my ear? Telling me to give up?
Well I'm not giving up. Not for that part of me that hates myself. That part wants me to wither and die. not for you. Never for you.  --Loki: Agent of Asgard

Here we go again - a non-trans person criticizing a trans person and telling them how to be trans. Ms. Raven-Symone is not a T in the LGBT alphabet (although she apparently is an L) and she shouldn't be telling any T how to advocate for the T community.

I agree with Jill - let Caitlyn run. She's handled her transition extremely well so far and apparently knows what shes doing.  I just watched the first episode of I am Cait and I was very impressed with what I saw, less the Hollywood scripting which was apparent from time to time. I think that Caitlyn has been deeply touched by the issues in our community and intends to try to do what she can to help - more power to her.

Change for the better cannot be stopped, so why try to slow it down?

There is a better tomorrow.

Simone does not have to live with transphobia. No one tells her she has to prove she's worthy of her gender. No one threatens to arrest her for going to the bathroom.

Of course she has no clue about the things Jenner is fighting for.
Have you read my short story The Eve of Triumph?

Caitlyn has the public attention, the celebrity, the money; she is finally free to be herself and that alone is so liberating, and given that she's 65 has no idea how much more time she has, she sees a wrong and wants to help by being a trans-activist. I say KUDOS and let her run. The awareness she has brought to the plight of trans-people is awesome. No, she's not moving too fast. As long as their are trans-people being murdered, taking their own lives out of hopelessness, nothing to bring about trans-equality is too fast.

In agree with Jill and everyone. Caitlyn did a great job with her first episode.

Many people thought she would be bad for our community and I was one of them. I am a big fan now. I hope it continues.
