I watched the show religiously for the first few seasons, and am planning to catch up when I get some extra time - I don't want to be too spoiled, so I'm purposefully not reading the article yet. I will say that IMO they've done right by the LGB community in past seasons.
I think shows bring a lot of value when they can show that sexuality or gender identity are not the most important things about the characters. PLL has done that with past characters, and I'm willing to see how the trans twist plays out.
