Hey everyone, you can call me Gui (its latin pronunciation, so it goes like "g'ee"). I was born male but have always felt kinda out of place. When I was younger I didn't know how to separate gender from sexuality, and the fact that I like girls had made me think I was a regular heterossexual boy.

Today I'm 19 and for these past 2 years or so I started to find out more about myself. I am a girl, or at least, feel like one on the inside, and I think its time to bring it to the outside. Tomorrow I have my first appointment with a gender psychologist.

My family doesn't know it yet, and I'm not ready to tell. They're very religious and aren't really supportive to any of the LGBT cause. Going "Surprise, I am a lesbian transgirl" would be a big shock to them.

I've been reading in the forums for a while, and I decided to come and join the conversation. I know that there are some amazing people here and I would love to talk with you.

I know what it's like to have religious family and not being ready to tell them but being ready to transition is a struggle, but hang in there and I'm sure in the end it will be worth it for both of us!!

Today I talked mostly with a social assistant (filling some papers and the boring stuff) but got to know the psychologist as well.

I think its going to be good for me, and I'm really excited to finnaly let myself out a little more.

Hi there lol this made me laugh. I can so understand this. My parents aren't religious, but my dad is all about the macho guy stuff. He was already so disappointed when I was more interested in computers than sports. If I told him that he'd be in total shock. I think he would say nothing and just walk away. And my mom would just assume I was going through some psychotic break.

But you really never know exactly how your parents will react. One of my gay cousins, was really close with my great aunt. She had no idea that he was gay somehow. He was caught multiple time having what he called a "sleep over" with a guy in his bed only wearing boxers. Not sure if she really didn't know or just in denial. But anyways, she was a very active christian, and constantly bashing gays and talking about how wrong it was. I understand why it took him so long to come out to her, the whole family was worried that she would shun him. But as soon as he did, she started talking about gay rights and how stupid it was that gays couldn't get married in our state. After 60 years of anti-gay beliefs, her love for her grandson completely changed her mind. It not exactly the same as your situation, but I hope you get what I mean by it.
