What was so wrong with pumpkins and skeletons?
These days, Halloween seems to be all about the bad taste cultural reference – sexy Ebola nurse anyone? And Halloween 2015 has already got off to a flyer with this Caitlyn Jenner 'Call Me Caitlyn' costume, based on her iconic Vanity Fair cover.
Apparently, the costume, available from Wholesale Halloween Costumes, Anytime Costumes, and the Spirit Halloween retail chain, is guaranteed to 'make you the top news story of the night.'

I think it's offensive, but I really didn't expect anything else out of the whole circus.

Anyone coming to my door with that on will not be getting any candy.

Huh.  A change.org petition.  That'll fix the world. ::)  Perhaps Vanity Fair has a copyright claim, and they can hit this with a lawsuit... but that's really not going to change anything.

People have been gender-bending for halloween forever... now there's one more excuse.  I'd rather celebrate that, and accept the offensive nature of it as inevitable.

I mean, yeah. I don't oppose people buying this and wearing it. I just won't be supporting it. My right, right?

I don't get trans people using Halloween to dress up en femme because to me that devalues us to just playing dress up. But that is just me. You are free to do as you please (and I'll still let you have some candy.)

I think it's a chance for people to express themselves if they aren't out, a once a year free pass. Who is doing this devaluing you speak of? No one of consequence, I'm sure.

Hugs, Devlyn

I think it depends on how much thought they put into their "costume"; it's one thing to go out with a full beard with a ladies hairstyle wig, and looking all disheveled in their chosen garb, but for those who go all out, and try to look like a natural woman, I think it raises some eyebrows and arouses suspicion as to whether the person is trans, especially these days when everyone is aware of trans people.

I'd agree...
there are so many people and so many reasons...
but imo its a nice opportunity to get in touch with the male/female side... for some people it might be a start... an opportunity to see how they feel...

I'll give her another thumbs up.  My journey took a lifetime and I was one of those who found lots of opportunities, like Halloween, to feel free for a day.  Yes, trying it out was a little step long ago for me.  I imagine there are some other folks who will also avail themselves of the chance to get in touch if only for a while.   It makes it better for us if people can relate to feeling free to change and wear whatever they want.

Well as I said, it's just me. I don't get it but I'm glad some people can find their own way of finding themselves. They're still welcome to my candy. :)

The outfit is not offensive, Asumptions that the're saying cait is a monster is. And un-fortunately without enough effort to suggest the cait costume is adding another hero, It will run to the default of "adding a monster" or "villian".

I mean, Imagin this advert

We see, Somebody in a wonder woman outfit, then a bat-man, then super man, iron man, cat woman Thor.....Then we see a ciat costume, The actor looks to the camara and says, "WHO's YOUR HERO?" The actors with the other suits walk into shot, along with the real jenner,

And then, Across the line the actors say,

BECAUSE - Said By Wonder woman
       THER'S - Said By Batman
           MORE - Said By Superman
THEN - Said By Iron man
JUST - Said By Cat woman
           MONSTERS - Said By Thor
TO CHOOSE FROM - Said By Jenner.

Now how many of us, would still be offended having seen the intention to promote this posotive image?

I think, that without making Intentions absoloutly clear what side of trans acceptence they intend to market, people are left to draw their own opinions as to why this outfit exsists. And it is this that is causing the controversy.

Is it a slight, or an honor?
Remember, it is a cait outfit, not a transgender outfit. And just as people somtimes dress up as a superhero for haloween, People also dress up as their favourite singers, and sports personalities.

The company says? they see cait as a hero and are honored to enter cait into a line of real life heros? Have you seen any advertising towards this costume, or just been made awear of its exsistance?

Next.. IS their any marketing? What opinion does that seem to give if any?

Now, without any advertising, it is a realy bad idea. but with aprpriate marketing, this outfit could be a realy good idea.

Nice spin BF.......................

Did I spin it? Or was it allready spun?

Point is we dont know.

The message/intention wasnt clear enogh, because of this the controversay is making the truth hard to find.

Even, the company itself saying, we intended positivley can LOOK like they are just trying to avoid a bad reputation, or playing inocent after being caught.

Without supporting evidence, even if the company did have good intentions, they will more then likely have to apologise anyway, for offence given due to poor marketing of delicate material.
