Been waiting for news ever since I went to my GP, and today I got a cc of a letter telling them to send me to either Exeter or Charing Cross. Forgive the slightly stupid question, but do I need to do anything at this point? Will my GP refer me on automatically, or do I need to make another appointment to discuss it with them?

Man, this has made everything slightly more real. It's exciting and scary at the same time. Well, more scary at the moment, but I'm sure exciting will assert itself in time ;).

If your GP is a slacker, call and prod him/her about your referral.  Playing an active role in this process helps, and due diligence suggests that polite follow-up calls to make sure things are getting done is a prudent step to take.

Don't worry honey.  The excitement and scariness will soon fade into frustration, boredom, more boredom, even more boredom, more frustration, punctuated by moments of sheer anger at how screwed up the system is over here.  Settle down for a loooooooong and sloooooooow ride.

A phone call might be a good idea. It would help assuage my tendency to fret, and wouldn't be too forward. And I can always make an appointment during the call if need be. Thanks :).

Yeah, I've read stories already. I keep consoling myself by reminding myself that at least I don't have to worry about the cost.

I was advised I'd be waiting thirteen months from referral to first appointment.  Slowwwww
