An NHS doctor refused to treat a transgender patient because of his religion, a Parliamentary inquiry as heard.

The Women and Equalities committee today heard evidence from a range of health experts and trans campaigners, as part of an inquiry into trans healthcare issues.

The evidence session following warnings that the NHS gender identity services are 'spiralling out of control' with backlogs amid a growing number of trans people seeking help.

I have first hand experience of this when trying to find a replacement G.P following the retirement of my previous primary-care practitioner.
The other practice in town only had Doctors representing from a singular, cultural and religious background; both of whom declined to accept me as a new patient, citing: "Doctor, not being comfortable with your background"........I concluded the 'background' in question wasn`t my place of birth, socio-economic grouping or PhD.  ;)
I`ve wondered since, as to the legality {and ethics} of them making such a statement, esp. with regards to anti-discrimination/gender-equality laws?

Thankfully, after several months of being without access to any G.P healthcare support, I was able to locate a wonderfully supportive new G.P in a nearby town.

If your religion prevents you from doing a job, consider a new job or a new religion.
