I just had my yearly visit with my endo of two years now and this visit was HORRIBLE!
I'd expressed my concerns about my T levels. A couple months prior I was experiencing mood swings for the first time in 2 years. So instead of biweekly shots I now do them weekly. Which has seemed to be helping. I went to my PCP and HE ordered lab work to check my levels, which I've never had checked before. I was in the normal male range but very low!!  I was told by my endo and nurse that because I'm transgender I don't have a normal hormone range because I wasn't a REAL man and that I was born a woman. You can believe this sent me through the roof!! Which this is BS. If it was true then there wouldn't be a thing called "too much testosterone"! This goes for trans and cis men. Smh. My endo also performs bottom surgery but doesn't do ALT in which I'm set on getting. He believes it's too risky of a surgery and doesn't have any sensation which is a lie. His facts are obviously outdated. Just because you're not willing to learn to perform a surgery you have no right to down talk and give misleading info. I informed him I would need a letter of recommendation to provide to my insurance company at the time of surgery and he declined. Not because he doesn't believe I'm not a good candidate for it. But because he doesn't agree with ALT. He proceeding to be very sarcastic throughout. So now I'm upset and not to mention I have to pay $100 out of pocket for every visit. Which is only once a year but I'd rather take my money elsewhere! I'm looking for a trans friendly endocrinologist near or in the Tampa FL area. I've been looking ever since I left his office. Any recommendations would be very appreciated.

First, I'm sorry you've had this experience. It sounds like you have a good PCP though - have you considered asking him to administer and monitor your hormones? My PCP does for me and I like being able to get all of my healthcare related stuff done in one go. It's not required to go to an endo for this stuff.

Would you mind saying who this person is?

It's kind of a big red flag for me that an endo is performing or claiming to perform bottom surgery. By my understanding, they rarely even perform surgery when it's directly related to their field (like on the thyroid or something). They typically work with a general surgeon to do those things. And even if that's the setup and he's just the go-between, the skill set between a general surgeon and the surgeons who routinely perform bottom surgery is SO vastly different that I'd absolutely advise against considering this.
