I have begun the arduous tack of rooting through my myriad online accounts in order to change my name and gender wherever they apply. Yahoo! is currently in the process of migrating their user account system into a new format. During this period, which may have started long ago and has no indicated target completion date, editing of nickname, gender and avatar are all locked out. (The underlying registration name and email sending display name can be changed.) It is unclear how much of this information is still viewable publicly during the switch-over period.
I'm quite annoyed by this because my account displays a male-gendered avatar and a male nickname that can't be changed for who knows how long. Supposedly you can link Facebook or something and Yahoo! will inherit the settings from there, but I have little interest in tying together all of my accounts and having all these companies automatically knowing everything I'm doing at any moment and then potentially making that information available openly to other users.
Has anyone else run into this problem with Yahoo! and do you know if there is any recourse? Do I just have to wait until they finish the system migration, whenever that might be?
