I am sure this topic has been covered before, but I could not find it so I decided to make a new thread.

Let me start off by saying that I am a 19-year-old pre-T male, who passes the majority of the time --- until I speak.

My voice always gives me away! It's not particularly high for a girl, but it won't pass for a boy and it's getting to me. I know that my voice will become a lot deeper once I'm on T, but I don't know how long that will take.

So what I want to know is: do you have any tips on how to naturally deepen my voice or to make it 'passable' as male while I am still pre-T? I know this is possible; I've heard it. I just don't know how. >.<

Thanks!

Put your hand on your upper chest. Speak naturally, then slowly try to speak further down your throat, so to speak, until you can feel your voice in your hand. This'll take a fair bit of practice, but after a bit it should come pretty easily. Speaking from your chest (or deep in your throat) will make your voice lower--perhaps not as deep as the average cis male, but deep enough to help definitely. It helped me a lot when I was pre-T, to the point where a fair number of the few people who knew about me being trans thought I was already on T.

Good luck, hope this helps!

Thanks! Any bit would help, really. I appreciate the advice; I'm gonna practice it.

You could have a look at:
www.nyspeechandvoicelab.net/transgender/voice-masculinization
for target levels and hints...
and you could try to speak a bit more monotone... less ups and downs of voice, and more direct language...
women tend to use more indirect language like would you... might... etc...

Practice. What I'd do is find videos or sound clips of guys with higher voices, and try to match pitch with them. Adam Levine is a great one to start with. Practice until you can, and then find someone with a slightly lower vocal range, and start again. It's kind of a building process. A lot of it is going to be figuring out how to move the air and "where" to speak from. Speaking from your chest or the base of your throat is what you want to be doing.

And keep in mind that voice is only one part of the equation. There are a lot of speech patterns that are typically read as female (rising inflection, phrasing things as questions that aren't, etc.). So if you get your voice into that in between state pre-T, you'll need to start recognizing not only where the range of your voice is, but also how you speak.

Thank you for this thread, it's something I was wondering about myself.

After watching that video, I started subconsciously doing some of those tips without meaning to.
