When I was working a seasonal job in Colorado I looked up what it would be like to see a Gender Therapist and they had one in Denver that it was like on a Donation way where you just give what you can. Well I am pretty sure that not all places are like that and some of the places that I get jobs in that state I am pretty sure that gender therapists don't even exist in those towns or states.

So I am curious if you don't have like health insurance or etc and you need to see a Gender Therapist how much does that usually cost out of pocket and if they do say that you can take hormones how often do you have to see a gender therapist after you start taking hormones?

I am just trying to get as much knowledge as I possibly can about this entire situation and want to know as much as I can.

Any info would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

It varies a lot. In NYC I was paying $120-$140 a session. Some therapists bill sliding scale.

I saw two different therapists and got quotes from two more. Keep in mind that you absolutely can see someone that doesn't work in your state of residence. As long as they have credentials and are licensed in the state they practice, they are able to make referrals for surgery, HRT, etc.

- Online chatroom sessions with a therapist in NC - $45
- Online chatroom sessions with a therapist in the UK - $50
- In-person sessions at local clinic, covered by insurance after copay - $40
- Skype sessions with a therapist in IN - $130

I ended up doing online sessions with the first two (I fired the first one, and will be going back to the second one shortly for bottom surgery referrals). For me, time was a scarcer resource than money. I liked online sessions because I could do them from anywhere with wifi, or on my phone if I had to. I didn't have to drive anywhere or really stop what I was going. I know some people have driven for hours to get to a good therapist. I'd say that is something you should also be considering when you're comparing costs (time + potential expenses incurred to travel).

I guess I'm lucky mine is free because I go to my university lol but I guess it's because we pay a health fee or something, but when I called other ones close by they were 50 or 80 dollars... I guess it depends from where you live too.

The primary therapist around here charges $100/session or $300 for 5 sessions (if you pay for 5 in advance). He didn't have evening or weekend hours, so I ended up going with somebody else. If cost is an issue, some will do a sliding scale.

Mine was $160 per visit (45 min).  That was for a psychologist though.  I never priced any non-psychologist therapists.
