There was warmth in Texas, and not just the climate. People there meant something to me. I haven't felt that in all the decades since coming to Chicago. I wish I could have stayed, but it would have been too painful living there without Jimmy Chris, and I couldn't stay with Jimmy Chris after what happened between us.
