It is a sweet story.
Last thanksgiving we went to my aunt's nursing home. She had severe dementia and I had to come out to her every half-hour or so. She'd ask me who I was, and I'd have to deadname myself and tell her that I was female now. Her reaction varied. At one point she asked how that could happen and I explained about being transgender. "Never heard of it," was her answer. But most of the time she just shook her head in confusion.
