I'm 20 years old and I'm starting HRT in November. Do you think my face will change enough to pass in the next months or years? ::)
Ps: how can I post a pic to let you see?

Welcome to Susan's Place. You need to store your picture on another server like PhotoBucket and save the url. Then you use the insert image on the left hand side of the post screen and place your url between the bracketed commands. Preview it to make sure you have it right then post. Passing is more than hormones. It's a combination of makeup, hair, sometimes surgery but most of all attitude. if everybody thinks you are a woman and you believe it, most people will overlook flaws in your appearance. Look at my picture and you will see a relaxed happy person who belongs. The only surgery on that face was a little cleanup on the nose that didn't really need to be done but I breath much easer as the result of it. The same face was accepted as male for many years and one of my therapist told me I appeared to male to pass.

Yes.
sight unseen  ???
A young age does not guarantee that someone will pass with HRT alone.

Passing is mostly a decision, an attitude.

So, I say yes.

I accept that that is your philosophy, but do you really think that is what she is asking?

No, that is probably not what zazh95 has been asking. It is what she needs to realize if she wants to be happy.

@kittenpower: I love you and I respect you, and I hope you are not offended or worse.

@Dena: I knew that my post was not of the usual kind, and that my point of view appears wrong to those who do not share it. Happens to me every day.

It would be impossible for me to say for certain without seeing a picture. I know that isn't the response your looking for, but it is the one I can give with 100 percent confidence to you. It is true that much of passing is how we act and carry ourselves out there in the world along with other things like voice, but when it comes to passing by looks alone a picture is worth a thousand words. You can post a picture in post that we could see. That is possible, but an avatar isn't possible tell 15 posts. It is easier to see a post in a thread. It is bigger and expandable so we can get a really good look at you so we can give you the best information to help you. HRT can do wonders and at that age it very well could make you easily passable, but without seeing we have no way of knowing. Secondly, millage may very with hormones anyway so some it has moved mountains on those some may have never thought they would have passed before transition. Hugs

Aww, that's sweet of you to say. Hugs :)
We have different points of view, but that's ok. I do agree that attitude and confidence is extremely important.

Welcome to the forum.

Passing? It depends on a lot of factors and many of them are not related to your face. Yes your face will most likely change with HRT especially if you epilate/laser/electro your beard, shape your eye brows, etc. Whether it is passable will be up to you. Sadly there are a number of trans women who look very much like genetic women who - for whatever reason - believe they do not pass.

HRT is not a magic drug. For example, it will not change underlying bone structures (such as your chin, brow, forehead) or nose shape/size. It will feminise your skin, face and body to an extent but being able to present as and be seen as female is about a lot more than the HRT and your looks.

I pass consistently without effort and it's honestly quite uneventful now.

That said, if hormones can work for an old lady like me in my 30s, it may work for you. Then again there are people here in their 20s who are unhappy with their appearance and claim they get clocked.

So really you won't know until you try.

I know that "passing is mostly about confidence" sounds like a cliché but trust me it is absolutely true. There are days I go out with upper lip shadow and no makeup in just a t shirt and jeans and people instantly gender me female. Without even me saying a word. Just approaching them with confidence and smiling. So yeah, confidence helps.

I get stares from both men and women every now and then.  I never present female in public either and I'm in the 30 crowd.  It just takes time. :)

I present female 100% of the time though. That doesn't mean that I can't wear a T shirt and jeans now and again, but people will see a woman, which is what I am.
