I am 4 weeks post-op today. I had the periareolar surgery with Dr. Medalie. The incisions are only half way around my areolas. I just went through and read other post about swelling and numbness out of concern but feel much better about all of that now. The left side is a little fuller (feels a little squishy) than the right and is more numb.
The incision on the left is healing great as well as on the right. I did, however, have an issue with the right incision. One week post-op I noticed some whitish color under the glue and started to fear it was infection. I emailed the nurse and she said it was probably just water that got trapped, that the glue should fall all within a week and there would be new pink skin. After that, every time I changed the dressings/bandages/(whatever it's called) there was some oozing of the whitish/yellow color and the glue would lift up in that area. It kept getting worse every time I changed them as if the glue was just trapping it all underneath so I pulled the glue and cut it away from that area (gently, it came right off as it wasn't even attached so I just had to cut it from the other area) and it began to heal.
It was freaky because it was almost as if the stitch broke in that area and the nipple detached a little, it was kind of like a hole. That nipple sticks out more, I don't know if it's swelling or what but it really doesn't bother me much as I expect it will flatten as it heals. I have pictures of probably about 2 weeks of my chest and of the messed up nipple as well as new pictures if anyone is interested just let me know and I'll post them. I just wanted to post all of this and share what's been going on. They are some days that I feel a little down out of guilt, feeling that if I didn't stress so much then I would be healed up much better by now but most of the time as long as I am healing and making progress then I am perfectly content.
If anyone has any questions, please ask.
