I am not sure if this was commented on elsewhere, but please move it if it belongs somewhere else. I have followed pretty closely the Houston LGBT anti discrimination referendum known as "HERO". I am sure most of you are familiar with this, so I won't go into the background details. It was defeated yesterday, largely because of a scare campaign that focused on ridiculous scenarios that inferred that trans MtFs were in fact male sexual predators hiding in women's clothes.

In this vote, the City of Houston utterly ignored huge holes in the opponent's logic to vote with their fears. I am deeply saddened by this because I thought progress was being made pretty much across the board in this country. I believe that the only way that we can get beyond this type of thing is to force people to revisit this issue through their pocketbooks.

All people interested in human rights need to step up with a boycott of Houston's financial interests. I don't believe we should spend money in Houston, and I don't think we should be customers of companies that spend money there. The NFL, which is holding the 2017 Super Bowl in Houston, has already stated since the vote outcome that it will not move the Super Bowl. But the NFL responds to money more than anything. A list of its biggest corporate sponsors is readily available on the internet. Targeting them with boycotts will put the spotlight back on the NFL to do the right thing. I apologize for the political activism in this venue. If I am wrong to bring this here, please forgive me.

Hugs,

April
