Hi
My name is Kate
I am a straight 48yr old crossdresser

This I a brief description of some of my recent life events.
I have been crossdressing since age 10
I was surfing through cross dressing sights and reading the life histories presented there, I found many of them very touching and very close to my own story.
I recently took a trip to north to see my children over Christmas break. I promised myself that I would go into a store and purchase some panties. I found I just could not bring myself to do it.... The most I could manage was to cruze through the ladies in transit to another part of the store.
Upon my return home I started checking out web sources to satisfy my desire
I ended up doing an online order for 3 pairs of panties. This opened the door for further exploration of cross-dressing sights. The stories found on many of those sights hit very close to home and many touched my heart very deeply. I found my self window-shopping online, favoring women's shops and staying away from the sex type stores.
On one occasion I ended up at the Lands End woman's store. Many of their products have a "try it on" feature that's allows you to se the product on your body type. It starts with a generic model that as you enter your size, weight and measurements. As I entered the information the model changes. I worked with that for some time and tried on a number of outfits after I had developed my model (no where near what my body looks like) I had the option to save my model. Yes I wanted to save Her. One of the first questions was for the models NAME... I quickly realized that by naming the model I would be renaming myself and/or.... Naming my femme image

Kate was the name I chose.

It was like turning on a switch.
I had Absolutely no idea how much this would affect me.... Suddenly the sun was shining on the other side of the coin.
Suddenly I found a sister within myself
The past few days have been a whirlwind of emotion and joy for allowing myself to release the Kate within me I find my whole attuide on life has greatly changed, becoming much brighter and open. Even expressing myself with words has become a great comfort, something that uses to be a dreaded chore. My heart flutters as I compose these first thoughts on these matters. I know that at this point there is no turning this all off so I must go wherever it may take me. The greater goal is to help myself to develop into a better person and father.
The changes within me just from giving my inner sprit a name and setting her free. Have had such a dramatic affect. I feel so much positive energy flowing within myself. All this I owe to the vast number of supportive websites and forums, That helped me begin to understand this So much of my new found strength comes through my reading my other sisters words. Never have I felt so alive as now, as I start this journey.
Thank you for being there
Love
Kate

Wow Kate :)
How touching, positive and well expressed your post is.
I felt that with myself also, that recognising the feminine aspect of yourself will be liberating & uplifting and will make you strive to be a better person :)
(and what better way to start than to name that aspect, Kate is a good name :)   )

Its a sort of Ying & Yang thing I have been told,.

Congratulations

Welcome to Susan's Kate.

Glad you found us. We're a friendly bunch full of opinions and advice. I'm sure you will find Susan's a little home away from home were Kate never needs to hide. I'm TS and have been living full time since this past June. I knew becoming myself had already made a big difference in my life but hadn't realised just how much until an old friend told me how much more comfortable with myself I had become. Letting that locked up inner woman out has a profound effect. I wish you all the best. There are lots of stories here and lots of info. So fix yourself a cup of tea, or other relaxing beverage, sit down, take your shoes off and set a spell.

Good Journey,

Cassie

Welcome Kate,

I'm a 47 year old CD.  I found a deep desire to have a name several months ago.  I had tried a few but none seemed to fit.  The girls here have heard this before, but I'll tell you how I got mine.  I wrote about 50 names that I liked on a piece of paper, then kept crossing off names until there was one left, and that was Lisabeth.  My wife isn't crazy about the name but I kind of like it, and it's starting to feel comfortable for me after using it here so much.  (Kate was in the top 20 I think)  Having a name for your female side is definitely a postive step forward.  Anyway, good luck in your quest for self discovery and actualization.  You're in a safe haven here, where you can feel comfortable expressing yourself.  I look forward to hearing more from you.  Good luck!

Welcome Kate,
It sounds great that you have given a name that you like to that side of you that has been with you for 38 years (you mentioned 10 years old as the beginning). Well Kate, I encourage you to use your girl name as much as possible so you can freely express yourself here. Comfort, freedom, expression, and self identity are great powers that all people should enjoy.

I tried the Lands End online virtual model you mentioned. I am very impressed, it even gave a shape similar to the shape of my body. You can even try on different clothes that they sell and different colors. I used it to sort of try out different color schemes with the shape, hair style, and form very similar to mine to see how it affected my appearance. Sure does help. Wish all retailers had this.
