Tommi

Hello all.  Newbie here, to the site, and new to trying to accept myself...

I'm 41, married with children, 16, 6, and 3.  Been struggling with my identity forever, sometimes it's easier than others, but this past year it's become harder to deny my inner woman for whatever reason.

So like the rest of you I'm on that rough road to self-acceptance, and transition.

Thanks for having me here.

The main things to remember in life are Love, Kindness, Understanding and Respect - Always make forward progress

Superficial fanny kissing friends are a dime a dozen, a TRUE FRIEND however is PRICELESS

Thank you all!  I am truly working on it, but it's a slow process for sure.  Some days definitely better than others.  For the longest time I didn't want to admit what I feared to be the truth, that I was trans.  I think I've known most of my life, just refused to accept it.  Now at 41, it seems like an impossible undertaking.  Yet I try to accept myself, and begin the path, because I don't feel I have much other option.  The real me wants out.

I was ashamed of expressing my true self because I was always ridiculed. But as I got older I realized that someone should be ridiculed for pretending to be something there not and praised for being themselves. Trans is beautiful and be a proud transgender person because we are all strong and have the courage to be our selves

I agree.  For me, I find it difficult, because of the family.  Kids counting on me and all.  Trying to not capsize the boat, so to speak.

Understandable, you will not let anybody down by simply becoming who you are, it might be hard for them at first but down let that discourage you

Tommi,

Another Floridian here with your same story, except started 20 years later.  FYI if you live in South Florida, there is a monthly meeting in Ft. Lauderdale for transgenders.

Let me know if you are close and interested to attend.

Hi Emily!

I'm actually in Central Florida.  But thank you for the kind offer!  If I'm down that way I'd definitely come!

Hi Tommi,

A big Aussie welcome to Susan's family. It's good of you to drop in and say "Hi". Hope you like it here, and you stay for a while.

There is a mountain of information, resources and friendship waiting for you here, you just need to jump in start talking and ask any question you like. You're quite safe here and we are very accepting.

That is probably the hardest thing to do, is to accept yourself. Once that's done the rest is very simple. Either others will, or they won't. And if they don't, guess what? That's their problem, not yours. Can be hard sometimes, but that's life. One thing is for sure in life; you'll never be able to change anyones mind, only they can change it.

Looking forward to hearing more of your story in time to come, but in the meantime, be safe, well and happy.

Speak to you as soon as I milk the cows.

Lotsa huggs
Catherine
