From past surgeries I suspect the swelling would take a long time to go away and my body proved my suspicions right. My swelling was so bad that it took about two weeks before my cords would vibrate. Even today if I use my voice much it feels like I am getting hoarse. While people often have good voices at 6 weeks, Dr Haben warns that some can take as long as 6 months to return to normal.
I need to still use my trained voice but the surgery brought my trained voice into the feminine range. This is something I am comfortable with because for years I was using my trained voice to go from a very low male voice to a middle range male voice. For the blow by blow on my surgery check out my thread.
https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,192393.0.htmlYou can't have just the surgery because there is one payment for the doctor, one for the hospital and one for the Anesthesia. If you bring somebody to take care of you, you can chop $600 off for the night in the hospital. You might be able to save the cab fare. If you drive, that removes another grand for the air fare. They may require you to stay in the hotel so they can pick you up the day of the surgery. All the prices are listed on the other thread but I think you could shave $1700 off my bill if you have a care taker.
I wasn't going to pinch pennies on this surgery because I didn't want anything going wrong at the the last minute. Other than not getting enough sleep, everything went like clockwork.
