Just found out my company's 2016 insurance (BCBS-AZ) covers GCS!

It looks like the trans exclusion clause has been removed from my medical insurance for 2016, and there is coverage for GCS.

OMG!!!

I knew getting coverage was a possibility, but wasn't allowing myself to hope for it. Still in shock.

I'm scheduled for GCS with Dr. Bowers in October 2016, and wasn't sure I could save up enough in time. (Was beginning to think about rescheduling for 2017.)

Our HR team made this happen, and I am so thankful to them. We discussed the existing "trans exclusion clause" earlier this year, when I transitioned at work, but the HR folks were cautious and just promised to look into it. What a nice surprise.

The policy is through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona. I don't have the details yet, as that's all in the benefit book (which is always late). When I get it, I'll post the details of the coverage in this thread - maybe there are some other Arizona folks who can use this as ammunition...

Now that is some really good news!  I found out the same thing today about my Kaiser coverage as a retiree.  My provider group was "persuaded" to change that terrible discriminatory rider nonsense after I exhausted the appeal process.  I have a couple of real life angels helping me out but I think the US insurance industry also sees the writing on the wall.  Industry leaders are slow to embrace us but it is happening as they want to be "culturally competent."  Diversity committee speak for equity and compassion. ;)

Congratulations to us!
