Hey all! =] <3 My name is Naomi! I am new to this website, which my good friend directed me to after I came out as trans to most of my friends through Facebook. I am a 20 year old non-transitioning trans-woman. I have some questions about transitioning (I am MtF):

1) Will HRT be somewhat effective after I am past age 23 (currently 20)? My dad will not accept my identity and I will have to shut him out of my life and wait until I am 100% self-sufficient. I ask this because I have sort of a manly body (a lot of body hairy, very tall standing at 6'1 and massive beard). Thankfully I don't really have broad shoulders though.

2) Does my fat transfer to my growing breast and hips when I start HRT? I am really fat right now... but I come from a family that is known to have really big busts and extremely huge butts. =P I read somewhere that if your family has these sort of trends I could have it as well? Is this a myth or truth?

3) This one might be touchy! =P Does sex feel any different after HRT, as a trans-woman? This is a question that has peaked my curiosity.  I've never had sex, but I find the male ideals of sex absolutely gross. I would like answers from both post-op and pre-op trans-women! =]

5) Once I transition I want to ease my new identity into my friends' lives without us having much of a difference in our friendships. Any advice on this?

6) Is losing weight harder while on HRT?

7) How do I remove my beard hair? Will it come of after I start HRT? My beard is REALLY bad so yeah... =/

*Questions for any possible Californians reading this!*
8 ) I live in California, will being transgender put me at risk of more assault? I heard there is alot of assault in the southern USA but is it also apparent here?

9 ) Clubs, clubs, clubs! Most of my life I have been a depressed wallflower. I want to change this about myself once I transition. Are there any trans-friendly clubs in no-cal?

Thanks everyone who reads this <3! I hope I can find some friends on here because I don't really have any trans-friends IRL. Sorry if I messed up any terms I am still trying to get used to things! =]

1. I am 6'2", slim build and not hairy but body hair may diminish or can be removed. I started at age 23 and didn't respond well to HRT. Girls older than me have responded well. It depends more on genetics than age.

2. Most girls lose the weight and then put it back on as HRT has an effect. I would recommend you work on losing the weight now.

3. I haven't had sex but I have felt the part of it and it's different and my feeling is it will be far better. Getting in the mood for sex can be harder and takes more time but you feel it all over your body instead of just between your legs.

4. Missing

5. Bringing old relations into your new life may be a great deal of work and takes time. You may lose friends and the only way to ensure you will keep everybody is not transitioning.

6. HRT makes it harder to lose weight and easer to gain weight. As you are overweight now, you need to start learning portions control now as it will become something you live with the remainder of your life if you want to maintain a constant weight.

7. Beard comes off with Laser or electrolyses. Laser is faster and cheaper but will not work with some hair types. Electrolyses is slower, costly and painful but it get all the hair. Most people start with laser and clean up the rest with electrolyses.

8. I lived in California as a woman for 30 years and traveled the state without ever having a word said against me.

9. LGBTQ centers can provide you with company/information

I was 58, Ahh I think it worked

Part truth but very variable, the genetic component is great, but genetics is a number game.

3) This one might be touchy! =P Does sex feel any different after HRT, as a trans-woman? This is a question that has peaked my curiosity.  I've never had sex, but I find the male ideals of sex absolutely gross. I would like answers from both post-op and pre-op trans-women! =]

When you are happy within your body and you have a partner that cares about you, sex is .....lovely

5) Once I transition I want to ease my new identity into my friends' lives without us having much of a difference in our friendships. Any advice on this?

I didn't have friends pre transition. I was a total wallflower. I now have a social life that needs a PA to look after

6) Is losing weight harder while on HRT?

Yes, it is far easier to lose weight pre E. Not only may you find an endocrinologist will be reluctant to put you on HRT if you are morbidly obese, but this is your chance to have a hot body, how about working on it! You have a lovely height to be a tall gorgeous girl - you are, you have just hidden it

7) How do I remove my beard hair? Will it come of after I start HRT? My beard is REALLY bad so yeah... =/

Laser then electrolysis. If you have dark hair and light skin, laser will work miracles. Start yesterday.

8 ) I live in California, will being transgender put me at risk of more assault? I heard there is alot of assault in the southern USA but is it also apparent here?

I'm Australian, to be honest no one cares. Bigots are bigots they have to find someone to hate. One day they will discover mirrors and hate themselves

9 ) Clubs, clubs, clubs! Most of my life I have been a depressed wallflower. I want to change this about myself once I transition. Are there any trans-friendly clubs in no-cal?

Google transgender clubs in your area, there are thousands! You will be accepted and get lots of advice and help

Honey you are now with a family that doesn't care if you are trans or not. We accept. We understand. And we have been through it, warts and all

Wow lots of questions. I will see what I can answer for you.  It depends on the indevidul but I as well as others have seen many great results from people starting hrt in the 20/30s and up.the fat transfer thing is more genetics and luck if the draw but if you don't get the results you want you can always do fat transfer surgery. More and more trans ladies on the site are opening up about that. Now as far as sex goes? Idk what to say about pre op as I was to scared to try but post op it really does feel good. Such a intimate connection between two people. The friends part is easy. Just continue to be their friend and make sure you are also there for them. Don't make every conversation about transition and this is a biggie keep yourself busy with other things in life like school, friends, family games outdoors stuff or whatever you like. Keep living your life during the process helps keep the depression down and people still loving being around the wonderful person you are. Dropping weight does tend to get a little harder. Sigh but you look fabulous. Removal of hair you want to look on this site about that. So much good information in post. The California part I can't help you with as I stay in the south and only visit California a few times a year. But I will say he a respectable girl and even the poopest of guys (if they find out about your trans status and don't like it) tend not to get physical. In the south I have had some guys find out before I told them and all all say the same thing. They don't hit ladies. Being as I was very respectful to them that southern boy upbringing from their parents just won't let them do anything but end the day and drive me back home. But be for warned we do have crazy people in every state so just always be careful and use common sense. Welcome to the family

Hi Naomi and welcome to the site. Can't help you with most of your questions as I'm still very early in my own transition. Just wanted to welcome you in.
