This might sound incredibly stupid, but I'm going to ask this anyway.

Does local anesthesia have any effect on estradiol levels, or even it's effectiveness? As well as anti-androgens? Say you have some form of surgery that allows for only local anesthesia, and then you are allowed to take your estradiol and anti-androgens. For the while that the anesthesia is in your system, does that take away any benefit from taking HRT?

I can't see how it would. Even if it had an effect local anesthesia is only for a very short time. Plus my endo gives me a local when I get the estrogen implant inserted.

General anesthesia might be slightly different, but only because it might mean you're getting surgery, and you may have to stop HRT for a few weeks because of the surgery.

No anaesthesia local or general has no effect on oestrogen levels.

The reason we go off E before having a GA for surgery that has a risk of causing bleeding is the increase risk of blood clots while on E. Natal females have the same problem but you cannot take them off E!

The risks in fact are minor but just about every surgeon will work to minimise any risk at all.

I have never had an issue with it affecting my hormone levels and that is with me even having to skip a dose of Spiro for surgery. It still didn't affect anything. Hugs

Orchid, I don't see a local being a problem but a general might. Before I had my GRS surgery, the pre-op information packet said I would have had to have stopped estrogen some weeks prior to surgery for some reason. Spironolactone was stopped only the day before the surgery.

My advice is that if you are having any surgery, let the physician know you're on HRT so they can take the appropriate steps. The same with any medications you may be taking as many of us may have more than one doctor to take care of our needs.

Love,
Clare

Thanks for the reply-

As far as that goes, what about pain medication and its interaction with estradiol? I've been told that Tylenol is okay, but how about Hydrocodone?

I was recently prescribed Lortab for an extraction that I am going to have (only taking after the procedure) and while my dentist has said once and again that one should have no problems, he has also never had transgender patients or even patients that have haven't disclosed that they are on HRT for whatever reason.

You've female blood chemistry is all. I'm sure that all that drugs women can take are ok, and I don't think I've heard of anything gender specific drugs (apart from pregnancy), so that's all drugs.

The only issue you'll come across is surgery. SRS surgeons have strict rules about stopping HRT before/after surgery.

So I'm bumping this topic of mine for relatively good reason.

I have to take an antibiotic (z-pack) and medrol, an anti-inflammatory medication. Again, my dentist while great at his job is missing a couple points on the interaction with the hormones that I'm taking and the anti-inflammatory meds, as well the z-pack.

I'm hoping that I don't have to worry about anything, I'm sure it's fine but I like to put my worries out here because you are all great at relieving mine.
