What are the Advantages and Disadvantages of getting an Orchi?

Any personal experiences that are relevant?

Because of recent medical info, I may have to delay surgery, and am looking at an Orchi as a stopgap, so I can give my liver a break while I wait to find out if I am even able to get more done.

Thanks

Hi Mila :)

Please see this link in our wiki:

There are several links at the bottom of this article which contain additional information.  Good luck.

Hello, Genopunk,

I have some firsthand info about orchiectomies and some second-hand.

I am pre-op but finally on the list.  Three years ago, after I had been living in my true gender for 3 years, I went to a urologist/surgeon and I was examined for the purpose of consulting on an orchiectomy.  It would cost about $8,000 and this was in a major city in the U.S.  I thought it over and decided to hold on, which in my case, it worked out.

For me it would have been a further act of commitment and sincerity to myself to touch myself after the swelling went down and find that they were gone, forever!!!!!!! :)

I have a friend who wound not have been able to tolerate the GRS so she had an orchi and alteration of her urinary tract so she has a stream of urine that one expects from a woman.  I did not ask anything further about the extent of the surgery but she did tell me that it was as far as she could ever go.

In GRS the testicles go into another dimension anyway so you might want to carefully examine your future possibilities for GRS.  Questions:  Will an orchi help you to feel better about yourself and the transition that you have chosen to do?  Will an orchi qualify you for a change of the gender on your birth certificate?

I hope that I have said something to help, however little it might have been.  I wish you well in making your choice.

I had a orchi about 7 months ago and it was the best thing i ever did. I already had b.a. and rino. and still want to have SRS but until then my body has responded great to my orchi and still gets better everyday. I am 42 and have been on hormones for 7+ years with good results but now my breasts ,skin ,hair and body structure are better and still improving everday.  Renee

Oww!

Don't think I would do it myself.  I did try that at one point when I was very depressed, but backed out at the last minute, and I'm glad I didn't do it that way.  That was a dark time in my life before I transitioned.  I really feel now that I want to weigh all the positive and negatives, but I fell that due to other medical conditions, and the possibility of having to wait a long time for srs, that it might be best to get it done by a doctor.

Thanks :)

Thanks for the update Renee!  Sounds like you had a positive experience!  Did you have any complications due to your Orchi?

Thanks again

Mila,

The most noticeable change after your orchi will be that you are no longer male and there is no going back. I know what they say about hormones but the fact is unless you start them in your early teens they will not make you female only hide your maleness inside and out. After the effects of testosterone have begun the only way to find your other side is to completely remove it. OK now with that said the effects are wonderful and get better everyday get ready for substantial muscle loss and fat distribution as well as a new outlook on life in general. For me it was the step after 10 years of hormones, rino., and b.a. that finally made me female inside and out. Now it is not all roses there will be alot of pain and a 3 month emotional rollercoster ride that I do not miss but after that you will be truly a new person. Feel free to e-mail me any time Mila you can never have enough friends.  Renee  (muscl5@aol.com)

Good thread; thanks for the comments. I know Genopunk and I will likely go do this together if we decide to do it. More and more it seems like a good move to make the more I read up on it. I think so far my biggest fear is just having a surgery in general. I have never had any surgery and it seems a little intimidating. I have also heard that going through the orchi process helped some get over their surgical fears in general (and I am SRS goal-oriented).

Mila:

Check out my blog entry on the subject:
https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,13143.0.html

I had it done several months ago and it has really helped me feel correct and normal internally.  I don't regret it at all and it has also allowed me to reduce the amount of spiro I take so it has it's physical as well as psychological advantages.

I hope everything works out for you, Mila!

I've heard that an orchi done the wrong way could make it harder once you get GRS/SRS, since the scar tissue can play a role in forming the neo-vagina and etc. However, I've also heard that they also can do an orchi with out damage to the tissues (they go in from the top and take them out that way, rather than going from the bottom.

I have a friend that is looking for the orchi route rather than GRS right now, but doing it the other way in case she wants GRS in the future.

I've considered an Orchi, but since my surgery is coming up it wouldn't make sense right now. But, I hear getting the tumors out makes a big difference (either through orchi or GRS). Everyone I talked to says that the HRT worked better after and they were much happier either way.

I don't actually have a date for surgery yet because I'm still waiting for the paperwork to get through the province. I have both of my letters, but the specialist is working on them and then they go to the province and then come back to me with a file number to use when I call to book my appointment. After that it's anywhere from 3 to 8 months wait, depending on the wait list, etc. It sucks waiting for approval and having everything "up in the air." Especially that I called the specialist and he's off until the 8th and they don't have my letter at the office in my file, but they said that he might have it on him and is working on the paperwork (which I hope is the case, because it would suck if that stuff got "lost" in the mail). I see him on the 30th, however, which is probably going to be more questions and making sure that I know all of the complications and etc. Then waiting for the province. So, I hope to hear back by the end of the year, and book a date for next year sometime.

As for DIY orchi, I've looked into it, but I had some friends stop me from doing that. Believe it or not, some people do it as a kind of fetish. I went onto one of those site and it was full of guys who did it and also cut off part or all of their penises, yet, had no desire to be a woman... they just wanted to be men but without those parts or something. Kind of how some people cut off their leg or an arm to be an amputee on purpose.

DIY orchi can lead to a lot of tissue damage and it doesn't always work, or you can bleed to death, depending on the method (there's one where they don't cut the poison factories out, but use a tool that they use on animals or something like that, which doesn't always work and can cause major complications). But anyway, moral of the story is that DIY is very dangerous and it could affect future SRS with tissue damage, you can get infected, and you can die. So, DIY is bad.

That's disgusting! Doing it for a fetish? After it's gone, the fetish must be over ???
I tried a DIY job about 20 years ago. It was a very brief experience.
I made a cut about an 1/8 of an inch, when I saw the blood, it was all over. I never thought it would bleed that much. Trying to fight the faint and cleaning myself, was sure an experience I won't forget and ever try again. NO WAY!

I recently started HRT, and an orchi was one of the first things my doctor suggested. I was quite :icon_weirdface: I told her about the complications for later SRS, and she was surprised to hear it, like it was impossible to have anything wrong happen later on. So, it's been in the back of my mind ever since.

When he was ready he showed it to his friends and they said he had created a great statue. And the sculptor said he hadn't created anything, the statue was always there, he just cleared away the small peices." Rambo III

If the tissue from down there doesn't work, they probably take it from your inner thigh or someone else, so, don't beat yourself over an Orchi you had thinking that you can't get SRS -- it's really up to the doctor and how they do the surgery. Maybe things will be perfectly fine, or maybe they'll get skin from elsewhere. They can still do the SRS unless there was some major damage or something, even then, they could try and do something.
