There's a popular belief that XX or XY chromosomes should serve as the sole determinant of whether someone is a woman or a man. Its also only used by terminally STUPID people.

It takes no account of intersex people

those XXY XO YY XXX (all real too)

XX males (yes they do exist) XY females (they exist also)

The people who believe and write this simplistic out of date crap are scientific morons! They need to actually educate themselves in current scientific knowledge instead of basing their understanding on stuff which was proved to be untrue before I was even born! But thats the trouble with pop-sci - by the time everyone "knows" something its usually laughably out of date from the point of view of someone with a basic scientific education.

Sorry to be so scathing but it really does annoy me when people spout this sort of ill informed non-science!

Usually the unscience is coming from the same crowd that thinks the earth is less than 6000 years old.  So there is no possible nonsense in the universe that would surprise me coming from them.

Unfortunately, in this insane world those same inane people vote and hold political office.
