Blockers with T

I just started T the other day, but I'm also on blockers. My doctor told me he would start me off on a low dose, and he'll bump it up in like 3-6 months. I was watching some videos of guys who said their dosage, and mine seemed to be like half theirs. I'm going to have to my shot every 2 weeks. Is it possible that I'll be starting lower than some guys because I'm on blockers too? He said he did some calculations with my weight and height to figure it out.

One random thing too, I just got my shot the other day, and a nasal flu shot, and now I have a sore throat and somewhat congested nose, are these related do you think?

This is the first time I have read of someone in the U.S. being on blockers.  Usually guys only take T because T is strong enough to neutralize estrogen without a blocker.  Moreover, it is the first I have read of a 15 year old on T.  I didn't think anyone started until age 16.

Maybe age has something to do with the above?  The goal is for guys to mature at the same rate of other guys their age.  Maybe he gave you blockers because he wants to keep the T dose low for health reasons (and is using blockers to make up for the low dose of T), and/or to be the most precise he can in age appropriate puberty.  I would ask.  Very interesting.

Is your doctor an endocrinologist or your primary care physician?  Has he prescribed for FTMs before?

My voice hurt after my first shot.  It is not uncommon.  Don't know how the flu shot impacts things.

I'm 16 and I'll have been on T for a month on Tuesday. My doc started me off on a half-dose, but she said that after 4 weeks, I can bump it up to the full dose (my shot is weekly). She also said that if anything sketchy happened, I should drop back down to the half-dose for a while.

I believe her reasoning was that she wanted my body to get used to the T before upping the dose; this might be your doc's line of thinking as well. I don't know why you're also on blockers or why he's having you wait 3-6 months before increasing the dose, but as Bimmer Guy said, it could have something to do with your age.

It is pretty common to start out on a lower than usual dose to ease your body into the changes. But I agree with Bimmer Guy, if he has prescribed to other young transfolks before, he may be trying to help your body mature at the same rate of other guys who are 15/16 years old.

I don't know anything about the blockers though.

My throat started to hurt during the first week and eased up after my voice dropped a bit.

Yeah, I think you guys are right with getting used to T. I have been seeing an endocrinologist, not a general doctor. I believe he has treated other trans youth, he told me I was one of his faster cases. He said that he likes to keep his patients on blockers with T until they start using full doses of T.

I started blockers 3 months ago, they told me they wanted me to start that first before T "just to make sure". I only have to see him every 3 months for the shots. I assume this is why my dose won't be adjusted for another 3-6 months. My only worry is that I won't be seeing any noticeable changes in this time period, with my dose seeming so low. But with what Bimmer Guy said, I can see why it could be lower because of blockers possibly.
