Genie in a Bottle
"Come and set me freeeee. Ooh-oh-oaoaoaooooooo. Come on-Come on" Red. The brightest and girliest lip-stick beckon on the table, next to the three styrofoam cups tipped over, and I was deathly afraid. Afraid to see my own reflection, but I had no choice, tonight will be my night! My first date! I picked it up, and from one corner to the other corner applied the lipstick on my lips. I then applied vaseline on my eyelids, and mix a deep purple eyeshadow, and I then applied the fake eyelashes. The Christina Aguilera metal-remix song played from Windows Media Player on repeat. With every word, I hummed along
"I feel like I've been locked up for a century of lonely nights, waiting for someone to release me". My head wanted to bang against the brutal guitar notes, so sick.
"Baby, Baby, baaaby. OooooooOooooo, my body is saying lets go."
I don't dare to look at my whole reflection in the mirror, just focusing on the application of the make-up. If I look at myself, I might see a man instead a woman.
"But my heart is saying no."
Billy is the first guy who ever ask me on a date, he must be the only one who ever saw the true me.
I hope he thinks I am pretty. The moon slightly peek behind the wool curtains in my mirror. It was a full moon. I hope this illusion doesn't fade away, and he loses interest in me, like Cinderella at midnight.
The pink dress wrapped around my body tighty, the dress he bought just for me. I couldn't bare to buy such a dress alone in the store. They would laugh at me, mock me, call me a freak... I couldn't do that. I wouldn't dare do that.
"If you want to be with me, there's a price you got to pay."
And he told me I had a face like a Victoria Secret model earlier on the phone, when we talk, and he said he like me a whole lot. And his dimples, and his blue eyes, and his smile. It was like he was from heaven itself.
But will he still think I am pretty?I know he said that, but does he really mean it? I think he does mean it.
"Dear, are you getting ready for someone tonight?" Grandma's voice broke my focus.
I sat in the middle of trailer, on the kitchen table was my mirror, and I peek at every second. Grandma sat on the purple-patch couch hearing the television set, reruns of old movies she saw long ago.
"HORM-ones racing at thaah speed of light, but that doesn't mean it got to be tonight"
"I am meeting a boy name Billy"
"Who is Billy?" my grandma ask. She really wasn't my grandma, but I viewed her as one because we been roommates for six years. She put on her rainbow-flowered-hat, her only hat in fact. She is at least in her late seventies, but I never ask her about her age. Where I go, she goes, and where she goes, I go. She just wanted a friend, and an honest caregiver to help clean the house and cook for her since it was too dangerous for her to do so. But otherwise, she can manage on her own, except her memory is weak at times.
"Billy is a boy I met in remedial math class, a college course I just begin to take." She knodded and smile. She is also legally blind
Her german shepherd, Spots, stood up as she was petting him. She didn't look at me in the eye, but she then said, "That could be Billy, well have fun and be safe!"
"It must be Billy"
"If you want to be with me, baby, there's a price you got to pay. OooooOooooo"
"Anna, you look absolutely marvelous, just like Jean Harlow."
"You really think so? Like the movie star Jean Harlow?"
"Even prettier" And she smiled, grandma gave me her pearl necklace just for tonight, and I won't thank her enough for them! But she is forgetful at times, since I already told her about Billy. Still, she was the only friend I ever had. Spots went to me and lick my leg.
"It is kind of scary, but so worth it to go back to college, grandma" I paused, "It was my notepad that made Billy be interested in me, it was filled with doodles and hearts, and he was made this smile, and ask me if I was gay while he held my hand. I couldn't tell him that."
Grandma continue to listen, "What did you say dear?"
"I told him the truth. The very first boy I ever told the truth too."
The song ended it's instrumental verse."OooooOooOooo, my body is saying let's go"
The blonde wig sat ontop of my head, and I looked up, to see my reflection. I squint my eyes, hoping that I saw her in the mirror. She smiled back at me! I am so excited for tonight. I was almost completely finish, just need to put the pearl necklace on to make it right.
"Want to be with meeeeee. Ooaaaahhh yayayaayayaaaaaaaaaah!"
The door knock. Thud. Thud. Thud. My heart beat loudly against my chest, I couldn't contain myself.
"Come, come, come and let me out"
"Hi Billy!" I waved my hand at him as I walk outside.
Billy tower above me, his brown hair push behind his ears, and he had devilish eyes that could make a nun blush. He was about twenty or twenty-one, but he looked far mature for his age. His eyes were a bright blue, and he hand dark eyelashes that seem to glisten as he blinked.
"Hello Anna, you look beautiful" he smiled at me. I lost my balance, and tripped over a rock. "Are you okay?"
"I am okay Billy"
I went over to him, and he took my hand and we went to his car. I sat in the passenger seat.
"I have a surprise for you, but I want you to put this on". In his hands were a blindfolds.
"What kind of surprise?"
"You will see" He began to speed faster down the road. As I held the blindfolds in my hand, he smiled at me.
"I trust you Billy with all my heart" I put the blindfolds around my eyes. I want him so bad. I think I am in love.
Then someone behind me grabbed my throat. A drunken voice announce, "I'm going to win the bet.The pig got to weigh at least 300 lbs!"
