So I had my first appointment yesterday and it went very well. She was an older woman but understanding and familiar with issues concerning gender identity and transitioning. Considering how she was the first person to meet me as Morgan completely, it was just so great! I talked about my confidence issues and moments in my childhood that had convinced me to suppress this side of me. She brought up another patient of hers who is currently transitioning and first met her with issues not too different from my own.
Apparently, the reason she seemed caught off guard when we talked on the phone was because her husband (who's acted as her secretary for nearly twenty years) has gone into retirement and, due to his health problems, is unable to leave the house without assistance. She's been juggling two jobs, one being a sponge for the problems of multiple people, for the last couple of months.
That aside, it was a very nice meeting and she was so kind and understanding! She really helped me feel accepted. It's one thing to be accepted by friends or family, but a stranger is a whole different ballgame! I've got my second appointment in a week and she's promised to help me tackle my confidence problems.
