It seems like I can't use the men's room without being told where the ladies is

I'm having difficulty these days using the men's room. I was in the Subway sandwich shop where I use the Wi-Fi and proceeded to the washroom. The ladies is broken so I used the men's and a guy was coming out and proceeded to lecture me on where the ladies room was. It's kind of a no win situation.

Oh good god, sorry you had to endure that crap.  I'm really in favor of non-gender-specific bathrooms, it seems like so much of peoples' gender twitchiness is so tied up in it. 

How many of these people have their home bathrooms set up as gender-specific?  Do you ever see them harassing people in line for port-a-potties during events?

I don't use men's rooms and I don't want to share a restroom with men with pee on the floor. Yuck.

It's really frustrating when people comment on your bathroom use. I get pulled out of the women's room sometimes, and while some part of the experience is gender-affirming, it can be really anxiety-inducing to have that reminder that people are "looking." The bathroom, even the public bathroom, is a private kind of place. Keep your head down and move on, people! Sheesh.

I use the single toilet bathrooms at work. At the Main Hospital there are more single toiled bathrooms (138) than men's and woman's multiple people bathrooms combined, but it is close. I have a point at which I will use the woman's bathroom but not now. Where I work there is a policy and I can only use woman's and single use bathrooms. Philadelphia backs up the policy with a city ordinance or where I work mimics the ordinance.

Where I work I would be in violation of policy if I used the men's room and receive disciplinary action. I do not want to use the men's room either so it is not an issue.

In Philly I was in the City Tap House with my wife and daughter. I had to use the bathroom. There is a sign that says bathroom. You go in and there are 15 stalls with doors. No designation for men or woman. The bathroom is very clean  and smells nice and it is well lit.

God, this stupid restroom stuff again, I would of thought there was more important stuff to think about. 

From a neutral perspective, if the ladies bathroom was broken for me, and I went to use the mens and someone told me where another ladies bathroom was, don't see the issue unless for some reason their rude.

I thought the point of the whole restroom thing is that MTF transexuals like myself want to use the womans restroom so surely its actually a compliment that someone is approaching you as a woman and telling you were the ladies toilets are?

But yeah, really, its just toilets.

Most of the CIS girls I know would find it intimidating to share toilets with men for obvious reasons, most guys wouldn't like the idea of girls peaking over at them, even if they wern't. Thats not even taking into account stuff to do with kids.

Sure having some gender neutral toilets would be nice, but again, it is not exactly a big issue in the eyes of most and where does it end?

This thread isn't about ''if toilets are broken''. Of course, if a toilet is out of service in many places people will use the other gender toilets for a bit, or usually just go on and use another somewhere else. 

Surely the answer in this case would be to just say to the guy ''Yeah the womens toilets are broken, I just need to use these'', there is no law stopping you do that haha.

If a mens toilet is ''broken'' in my case and most others they just find another toilet, or if it is in the middle of nowhere just use a bush or something, every incident I have seen where the womens toilets are out in a resteraunt etc, they can use the mens / disabled if they wish.

I will generally try to hold on until I get home in that case, or run next door.  This is one of the reasons I have great anxiety about dressing out.  I can't even in my wildest imagination walking into a ladies' room, which makes the idea of transition even more frightening.  Lots of work to do, I have.

I was in a restaurant where they were painting the doors and took the signs down. The woman would see which door was open and go in , the men would check both doors and if both door were open they would go in search of a waitress to find out which was the men's room.

I had a debate yesterday with my sister,  she said that you should just use the bathroom in which you identify. I agree but not everyone sees it this way.

I've come up against men and women who say that you should use the bathroom in accordance to your birth gender.

But then...

Men don't want to see transgender women in the bathroom, whether they pass or not because it makes them feel uncomfortable. Let alone the dangers for the Trans women.

But then when you mention a gender neutral bathroom. They come out with such an intelligent response (rolls eyes)..... Why should they have their own bathroom, why should such special provisions be made for Transgender people.

When asked for a solution, some say just don't use the bathroom. I mean really!!!

So the moral of the story is that some people want us either to wet ourselves or wear nappies (diapers)
