The aspirin only sounds like a good idea if your doc's tests indicate you should start taking aspirin. Taking aspirin for the possibility of side effect is not advisable unless your doctor indicates taking aspirin is warranted.  This is not something to do on your own.

Yup, not to overstate the obvious or to sound redundant but it is always best to consult your doctor
