Infamous Reparative Therapy Clinic For Transgender Youth Set To Close

http://thinkprogress.org/lgbt/2015/12/16/3732840/ex-trans-reparative-therapy-clinic-closing/

"Ex-gay therapy has been in a steady state of decline and disavowal, but the smaller movement of ex-trans therapy — efforts to discourage a transgender identity — have remained ongoing. Now, one of the most prominent clinics providing such treatment is closing and its leader seems to have entered an "end of career" phase in which he will stop advocating for the harmful treatment."

I don't approve of joy at someone else's misfortune, which is why I'm deeply ashamed at my own glee at the bootprint on Dr. Zucker's backside.

I don't know if what I experience is exactly "glee", but I don't feel sorry for this guy in the slightest.  I won't wish him bodily harm, but if he ends up as a nobody living on the Canadian version of Social Security for the rest of his life, I won't shed a tear.

I'm feeling joy because the man is a monster and won't be able to harm any more trans children. A few years back when he knew things were changing, he'd quietly show up at parents of trans kids conferences and try to recruit us into his studies. Needless to say, word spread *immediately* any time he did so and he actually had a difficult time finding participants outside his own clinic. And those families were a bit of a captive audience, so to speak.  At one point he mentioned that anyone who came it to get a Lupron referral for their kids had to first agree to have their child go through his "program". The one where they tried to convince trans kids they weren't.  And if you read the report on the clinic, there were highly unorthodox (now there's a euphemism) things going on like having underage patients undress in front of groups of clinicians, followed by verbal humiliation.

To move forward is to leave behind that which has become dear. It is a call into the wild, into becoming someone currently unknown to us. For most, it is a call too frightening and too challenging to heed. For some, it is a call to be more than we were capable of being, both now and in the future.

Kidding aside, the best thing to come out of this is that it will be harder for Zucker to promote himself as an expert on trans identity. He was instrumental in crafting the reclassification of transgender people in the most recent DSM and has been a frequent go-to for news and talk shows when they need an authoritative voice on trans kids.

Can't they sue these kind of quacks for the harm they have caused?  These people should be in jail at the most!  They had no intention of helping the patient, just felt good at destroying what this moron thought of as "sin".  Do-gooders should rot if they cause harm too no matter how ignorant they are!  We will never know the number of kids he has mentally destroyed or led to suicide from his actions..  If they can prove one kid dies at any age from his practice,  he should follow!

This article never told of any follow up of the kids to make sure they are ok, doesn't matter how many years ago they were traumatized!

I was shamed at an early age about my tg beginnings..  I can kind of remember them now and am starting to feel good about my actions..  if the people that caused me 40 years of hell were alive now, they would be the ones suffering now!

Postcards from the other side:)
