So prior to getting on HRT my biggest concern about going out as a female is the size of my neck as I feel is really gives me away as a biological man :-( I've found clothes which hide my arms and shoulders well but my neck is a problem!

Does anybody have tips that would help here? I have thought about the following subjects myself...

- shapes for tops (eg no turtlenecks, strappy tops etc)
- possible makeup techniques which could make my neck look smaller
- exercises to avoid (I mainly do yoga and Pilates, but Pilates has a lot of neck strengthening stuff in it!)

Thanks in advance :-)

P.S. You ladies are all super awesome, can't thank you enough for making this forum a beautiful place for me to visit!

I don't know for sure but it seems like the large cowl neck sweaters would make your neck appear smaller.  Would not be great for summer however,.

Neck slims down with HRT Too . Mine has gone from 14.5 inch to 13 inch

Mine has gone from nearly 17 to 14.75 in a year.  Very little of that was fat.  I'm expect given time it will continue to slowly shrink.

Yeah I don't have much fat on my neck, just muscle :-( HRT should help a lot but I'm still waiting for my first GIC appointment so I think it'll be a while!

In the meantime cowl sweaters do seem to work well! Good look too!

Hi Beauty,

Just my 2 cents, I think the more you are hiding it - the more it becomes obvious.
Try using tops with scoop or v-necks to elongate your neck which I think it is more feminine.
Do not wear any necklaces that is close to your neck i.e. chocker type.

I hope this helps xo

Yep wear things that bring attention to other areas of your body. Accessories are your friends and makeup. Also make sure you have proper posture so your shoulders back and down. If you let your shoulders go forward your neck looks way bigger than what it really is.

I get confused by biology :-) I'm sure you know what I mean though! Thanks for the advice Kate, what's the app called if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks to Oracle and April too :-) I'll work on that posture and stop trying to hide it so much.

I have a graffiti style tattoo around my neck and have thought seriously about having it removed or at least using makeup to cover it up when I actually start presenting female. But, I've also seen some very beautiful women with neck tattoos that are similar to mine... as well as women who have larger than usual necks. I have to constantly remind myself that women (people in general) come in all shapes and sizes. My mom had a nose that most would have considered to be not so feminine, but I always considered her to be very beautiful. Confidence makes all the difference in the world when it comes to "passing". At least that's what I am hearing from a lot of transwomen. Hopefully these go through. They are a couple silly pictures I took before starting HRT. They are both a few months old.

Wouldn't the adams apple become more prominent as the neck shrinks?
  •

From transition videos I've watched on YouTube it doesn't seem to become more prominent. Personally I think I slim neck really help to feminise the face :-)
