Beyond that, it's a sad commentary on Americans that the heavy hand of government has to be involved to force people to treat each other with common human courtesy and decency.

I didn't get that message and I STILL don't trust that site. The article is written with a strong anti-trans bias. Even the headline makes that clear.

New York City Commission on Human Rights Legal Enforcement Guidance on Discrimination on the Basis of Gender Identity or Expression: Local Law No. 3 (2002); N.Y.C. Admin. Code § 8-102(23)



IV.    PENALTIES IN ADMINISTRATIVE ACTIONS

The Commission can impose civil penalties up to $125,000 for violations, and up to $250,000 for violations that are the result of willful, wanton, or malicious conduct.  The amount of a civil penalty will be guided by the following factors, among others:

* The severity of the particular violation;
* The existence of previous or subsequent violations;
* The employer's size, considering both the total number of employees and its revenue; and
* The employer's actual or constructive knowledge of the NYCHRL. 

These penalties are in addition to the other remedies available to people who successfully resolve or prevail on claims under the NYCHRL, including, but not limited to, back and front pay, along with other compensatory and punitive damages.  The Commission may consider the lack of an adequate anti-discrimination policy as a factor in determining liability, assessing damages, and mandating certain affirmative remedies.

This newspaper article was in a conservative Christian newspaper and from what I can see its purpose was to get .people upset with New York City for fining people in New York City for discriminating against trans individuals.

When I transitioned, my employer told me that we have similar penalties.  Nothing crazy has ever not the papers here. Probably because an employer gets warnings and takes actions. Seems like a good thing.

Yeah, they did that on purpose, there are quite a few things in this article that are subtly positioned against the quote "NYC Pronoun Ban" ... I think they meant Anti Discrimination law? Silly christian news site, bending their words to make anti Discrimination sound like its against free-speech.

Did anyone else pick up on this?
