Hi there,
I am trying to move to California to finally begin my transition. Unfortunately I have no connections down there, which means nowhere to go.  I have a trusted friend that may or may not come with depending on the circumstances, but I will be going first and alone. I am mtf, and have been talking aboabouuu/or wanting to beginning my transition for nearly a year now but don't feel at all comfortable doing so in my home state. If anyone has any advice I would appreciate it very much.
Thank you,
Elaine ^_^

You could have a look here:

Additionally you might look for trans or lgbt housing projects... or communities, where you could look for a place in the vicinity...

or you could simply look for a neighbourhood where people are accepting, and where its nice...

I've always wanted to move to Cali but I've also always given myself a million reasons why I can't. I'm kind of at a point in my life where a lot of those reasons are going away. Let us know how your journey goes, I might end up moving out there in a year or so too!

Good luck, I'm rooting for you!

I live in Santa Barbara, CA. Small town with discrimination problems. I haven't even medically transitioned yet. I am going to have to go out of town for medical treatment for HRT. I suggest either LA or San Francisco. There are more services available. I wish you well.

California is a pretty good place to be trans, but LA and SF have the most in terms of resources.  We can spot the people  from out of state instantly as soon as they refer to it as "Cali".  We don't do that here. LOL

I'm from SB.  Is it really that bad?

Sacramento not only has trans resources (including the gender health center, a mainly trans group offering several different services for transgender people) but also a solid and closely knit trans community that feels a lot more like a community than anything that I saw in L.A. (in L.A., the trans people I saw tended to be self absorbed in their own lives and not interested in community.)

Jill F, this is my experience. I know of a few others who are/have had similar problems. The local hospital is supportive, I am now attending the Unitarian Society and I am going to PFLAG. I am hopeful and know that others have had a healthier, safer experience.
