Signed the petition at 9am this morning. The attorney called me at 3:30pm today and the name change was ready to be picked up. He said this was the fastest namechange he had ever seen go through :) But Bill Larson is dead, Susan Elizabeth Larson has been born!

This is my second birthday! My first was my birth on June 25th 1971. My second is my legal birth, January 5th 2016. My third will be when I wake up from my surgery. I will be celebrating all three the rest of my life.

Wow, that was quick!  It must be different where you are.  I started the process in early October and didn't have my hearing until December.  Somehow I forgot to include my birth certificate in the documents I had put together for that day so it was rescheduled for Feb. 1....  I'll get there  ::)

Congratulations!  I'm glad it went smoothly for you!  :)

No hearing,  ex parte. No publication requirement. Cost $300, counting attorney fees. $204.50 for the court, and a 10$ fee paid by the attorney.

So paid $85.50 to the lawyer.

A pretty good deal.

Note: The Lawyer is married to my sister.

One thing I griped about, but nothing I could do about it (this is Tennessee afterall); was that the petition and order uses male pronouns. The lawyer said he couldn't put she as it would not be legal to do so. It's ok though; I intend to work on getting my gender changed on my California Birth Certificate....

Tomorrow my first stop is the social security office, figure I will need that before I change drivers license. Then to my banks, electric co, Gas and water department.

Once I get done with all that; I come home to get paypal changed, credit car, and my car Insurance.

I am sure I will remember there are 50 things I need to change after I think I am done changing them all.

The nice thing is the order specifically says:

Upon any prior birth certificate or public record concerning this individual :)

Congrats!

Now starts the treadmill of changing your name everywhere, and you'll be surprised at how often the old name keeps popping up. Still, it's worth the hassle  :)
