My name is Korey and I'm 24 years old. I identify as ftm, but I'm pre-everything. I've been to one therapist and that was a complete disaster in regards to gender. Hopefully I will be moving to north Georgia, probably in Atlanta or Decatur and I can get some real help with my dysphoria and figuring myself out. A lot of times I will face doubt and depression, because I am mostly closeted except to few people I pick and choose with. I do not have a lot of friends, but I have a loving SO and we have been together for over a year now.

I love cats, anime, and dabble a little bit in art, games and other things like that. One of my resolutions for 2016 is to try to get help with my transgender status after I move in May, but also to try to be a little healthier, mentally and physically. I've been keeping a journal in which I document my feelings or times when I've struggled with my status.

I'd love to make friends here, or just get or give advice with others. :) If anyone knows some good resources they've been in around the Atlanta area, I'd love to hear about it!

Welcome to Susan's Place, Korey!!

You'll find lots of people who will be able to assist you with the Atlanta thing as we have people from all over on here.

I found keeping a journal was great. It allows me to record the highlights of my transitional journey, feelings and memories all in one place. I don't write every day, just when I have something to record. I think it would make interesting reading down the road but it's for me only. After I'm gone, maybe someone will begin to understand how I felt and why I did the things I did.

There will be a moderator along soon, who showed up while I was responding so how is that for service? They will give you links to how the site operates and the rules to follow. Nothing too strong, just common sense really. You can discuss medications etc but do not disclose doses. That's a no-no. (lol)

Take care and look around. There's lots to see and learn on here.

Love,
Clare

Hi Korey.  I'm in the metro Atlanta area and you will feel right at home in either Atlanta or Decatur.  I can put you in touch with a therapist here who is very knowledgeable regarding gender.  She transitioned in 1995.  As I was just telling another member here at Susan's, Atlanta Gender Explorations, atlantagender.org is an excellent open support group.

If you would like a trans-man therapist in Atlanta I can give you his name.  He's my psychologist and he's great.

He would probably be a better choice than mine in that case.

He did help me a lot, particularly in overcoming the nagging fear that I was simply insane.  He is well published on the subject too.

I'd actually be open to both of those suggestions and any kind of support group. My support system is honestly pretty poor and I am looking forward to moving either to the Decatur or Atlanta area soon. I hope that I'll be able to make some understanding friends and have a better experience than I have with therapists in my area further south.

Thank you very much. The main reason I started the journal was to have a healthy way of coping with things. The one bad therapist I had suggested that to me, just not about gender. I am hoping that when I go to try to get informed consent or some similar form of help to start HRT, the journal will help show that this is is not something I've just come up with out of the blue. And yes, the moderation has been really great and I am looking into the advice now. I used to lurk alot before posting and hopefully I'll get it right!

Hey there Korey and welcome to the family!  I guess we are sort of neighbors in that I'm down here in Mobile, AL  (Hollinger's Island to be exact).  I was up in Cummings last February during the ice storm; the roads were horrible but the trees sure looked pretty.

Be safe
