Looking for any suggestions on either a specific therapist or advice on picking one in general.

I work downtown, so the closer to that the better. But hey, if I find a good one, I'm totally happy to trek across town.

Basically, I'm finally getting insurance through my work. I've been waiting since October. And now I'm staring at a very, very long list of people I could see just under the category of "Gender Identity" on my provider's website. It's honestly really daunting.

A recent event told me that I really need to make this my most top priority. What was indifference is starting to flare into other, more destructive emotions.

This is a list of experienced gender therapists.  The therapists on this list are people who specifically signed up to be on this list.  Subsequently, they have an investment in doing this work, rather than just checking off a box when an insurance company asks them if they will work with trans people.

www.wpath.org is a group of professionals, including therapists who are committed to doing this work.  They have to pay to be a part of this organization, so that speaks to their commitment, I personally think.  You can be absolutely certain these folks know what they are doing.

Good luck to you.

I have now set an appointment with someone! I'm both excited and scared. I have some paperwork to fill out, but otherwise it's all set. Monday is my first appointment.

Good luck! Come back and let us know how it went. Consider making a mini-review so that others can get a good idea of whether or not your therapist might be a good option for them :)

Once I get a better feel for her, I certainly will! The first meeting went incredibly well, at least. But it was just the intro.

Thanks!

I've actually only gone to her twice, and she already gave me the letter I needed. I'll likely go back to her at least a few more times, but after my second visit I'm no longer sure. Mostly because she didn't seem to remember much of what we'd talked about the first time, confused me a few times with some of her other clients, and didn't seem at all prepared for our visit.

But for all I know it could have just been a bad day for her and it's not the standard way she operates. So we shall see!
