Maria Miller Shocked By Trans Report Hostility From Feminists

Planet Transgender/Added by Amy Walker on January 26, 2016.

"Maria Miller, former Culture Secretary and Chair of the Women and Equalities Committee spoke to The Independent on Sunday to discuss her shock at the negative response to the Trans Inquiry from a 'minority of women purporting to be feminists'.

Talking to The Independent on Sunday from her offices in Westminster, Miss Miller said that she was expecting to be attacked from within her own party by right-wingers once the Trans Inquiry was published, but was surprised by the reaction she received."

I find this shocking too - that the very movement that has done the most for women's rights are now actively working against the rights of trans women.
Have you read my short story The Eve of Triumph?

I find the whole Terf movement really disappointing. I just remember to tell myself that although they are vocal they are a small minority and I do not need their validation to be who I was born to be.

These 'super feminists' were discussed here in many threads. Ms. Miller said  'a minority of women purporting to be feminists'. A minority. These feminists don't like men either or what they think men trying to patronize them by changing into women. We are a minority compared to the rest of LGB community that we get easily misunderstood, especially from those in high places. Some of the people that try to help us in the LGBT community find out that a good percentage of the transgender members are different more so than the members of the LGB part.

The thing about TERFs is that they'd probably be 'Mens rights activists' if they'd been born cis male - I mean they're not really out for social change or equality but for personal gains and attention.

My impression is that many of them are clinging to a version of feminism, and a feminist identity, that was fashionable in the 1970's, but from which the rest of the world has moved on. At the time, that version of feminism was empowering for many women, but it's way past time for them to let go of it.

Yeah I agree. I mean second wave feminism was important, it did a lot for women, but there's more that needs to be done than was achieved back then. It's more complicated than some people want it to be.
