This is a copy of the e-mail I sent Kevin Naff regarding this article.
Kevin,
You wrote in part:
Meanwhile, others are gunning for the Human Rights Campaign, accusing its leaders of abandoning the "T" in GLBT. The snarky press releases have been flying all week, online message boards are filled with anti-HRC invective and at least one trans group even plans to picket the HRC National Dinner Saturday night in D.C.
Oh please! The only reason HRC has ever cared about trans inclusion is money. For years come fund raising time, top people at HRC would start talking trans but as soon as the money drives were over, they would try to push us back in the closet. Finally when it reached a point that many local and regional groups were withholding funding from HRC, they added trans to their mission statement just so those groups would donate again. Plus they endorsed trans being added to ENDA. Of course since at the time, Republicans were in control of Congress, it didn't hurt them to support this addition to ENDA because they knew it had no chance of even being considered, much less passed. Now that there is a Democratic Congress again, isn't it funny that HRC's promise of not supporting ENDA without trans inclusion has silently gone by the wayside?
So a trans group is protesting at the HRC national dinner? Big deal! They should not only protest there but in front of HRC's headquarters daily until the biggots disguised as the "Human" Rights Campaign realize that trans people are human also.
I received a reply from Kevin asking if my letter could be used in the print edition as a letter to the editor.
