Warning - you may become as outraged as I in this mis-carriage of justice

On Dec. 21st, 2014, the Back Porch Grill in Hot springs Arkansas was having their annual Christmas party. For the employees It was cause for celebration, but for Jacie Leopold the night was about to become a fight for her life and eventually, justice.

Jacie had been working as a full-time chef there when she began her transition to female in mid-2014. She was open about it to her friends and family, but she was afraid to tell her coworkers.

That story just left me speechless.  I don't know what to say.

It's stories like this though that need to be told whenever the powers that be say we don't need protections or that laws grant us extra rights.

Thanks for posting this Traci.  Although reading it makes me very angry.   I'm so sick and tired of this type of crap.

I was completely disgusted by what I read there. She should never have had to endure that ill-treatment.

There was a posting about this in the Facebook Transgender Alliance.  A friend of hers says she now has excellent representation and she is thinking of moving to the East or West Coast.

Thanks Beverly. It's encouraging to hear things might be improving for her but the Arkansas police should not only be ashamed of how they treated Lacie but the Attorney General of the State should look into possible criminal charges. Like Deborah, I was left speechless and appalled at how they and her employer treated her.

Generally I try to post more upbeat news, but this is a story that needs wide-spread dissemination to show why these anti-discrimination laws are so important. It's not just securing equal treatment under the law, but in many cases a matter of life and death.

Traci, I also understand from her friend, who is a FB friend of mine, the ACLU is assisting her attorney.  Where she lives the police and government are apparently about as corrupt as it gets.  One local judge left his son in a hot car last summer and the boy died with a core temp of 107.  The judge was just arrested and charged two days ago...for misdemeanor negligent homicide!

I'm happy that Jacie is receiving the help that she needs. Arkansas has a horrible record record in the treatment of TGLBQ people. A lot of police departments are corrupt.

things like this are why im so terrified of just being out in public, if anyone were to find out about my trans identity they could beat me or even murder me, the rate of trans murder is so alarming and theres nothing we can do about it other then to help people understand the community better
