Hi everyone this is my first post so I am excited!! I have recently started my transition but I know that I am far from having FFS but I know I want it in the future. I was doing some research on Dr. Lee and Dr. Mayer and I was wondering what are the pros and cons of both? Are they both good or do some have their own issues. Please let me know as I want to hear from all of you!!

Welcome!  I consulted both, they are very nice but a bit on the expensive side.  Dr. Mayer is a little older and doesn't do Type III foreheads but does hair.  Dr. Lee uses wires for the forehead/brow, if that means anything.  Good luck!

does the wires cause more of a natural look? I know my forehead isn't that prominent but I would like it contoured a bit. And yes the expensive side of surgery kind go sets me heart to places like Cardenas in Mexico where his prices are lower or maybe even to Bensimon in Montreal to which would be the closest surgeon

I consulted both and I'd say I was more comfortable with Dr. Lee . He was definitely more expensive but he could do the full job while Mayer just had excuses of why he didn't need to do the full job (ie: Type III).

Also someone mentioned Lee did Caitlyn Jenner? I assume that's what's inflated his prices but it also shows he's well known and can do the job, I think

I am one of Dr. Lee's patients.  Dr. Lee is the one who performed FFS and corrective facial procedures on Caitlin Jenner.  I first saw him for some nose work that was covered by insurance in April of last year. That was before anyone knew he was Jenner's doctor.  I was happy with what he did for me.  Then we all discovered he was Jenner's doctor and I knew that when it was time for FFS I would go back to him.  Maybe it was because I was a prior patient or because of some other reason but I don't feel that I was charged all that much for the procedures I had done.  I did not need Type III forehead work and did not require any bone paste. I had my FFS and breast augmentation done by Dr. Lee on the last day of August last year.

I detailed my experience here:   https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,198862.msg1773492.html#msg1773492

I also have a full review on the RealSelf web site.  I know a few other women who have gone to Dr. Lee and are happy with his work.  I also know people who have gone to Dr. Mayer and are happy. In the end, it really comes down to who you feel most comfortable with after having your consultations. They are both pretty good FFS surgeons.

Hey there! I'm interested in Dr. Lee as well. It's between him and another surgeon currently.

As others have said, the big difference between these two is foreheads. Dr. Mayer only does type 1 (burring), whereas Dr. Lee states that he can do that as well as reconstruction with wires.

For me, cost isn't an issue but I have trouble finding a surgeon I truly feel comfortable and click with. I have a good feeling about Dr. Lee but of course I will need to fly down to L.A. and meet him face to face during a consultation before I make any decisions. If he can show me B+A pics similar to the changes I want, I'd probably lean more towards choosing him.

And yes, Caitlyn Jenner is his most famous patient! I'll admit, it's a strong "pro" knowing that.

Travelling long distances for consultation is tiring. :( But I guess I'll treat it as an experience. All the best to you and your transition! Happy to hear that you've begun your own journey.

I heard from Nikki Exotica I think (sp? ) commented on her YouTube that Caitlyn  did go to Dr. Lee. Does anyone else find her look natural?  I mean I would want natural over the overdone look myself

I went to Dr. Lee and you really can't tell that I had any work done.  Even without makeup you would be very hard pressed to see where anything was done.  I was at a meeting today and people did not believe me when I told them I had facial surgery done.  I've had people tell me I look like I'm in my late 30's or early 40's when I am almost 55.  I'm convinced he does a great natural look.

That's amazing! I guess it depends on how well you have for after care as well as your expectations

We girls are very lucky as apart from FFS, HRT keeps us looking younger than many of our genetic female counterparts.

Also our previous life's background helps too.

Nobody believes that I am 70 and people quite often say that I look like as if I am in my 50's.

But not after having travelled by SUV the 1500 miles from Illinois to New Mexico overnight ... LOL ... ;D

OMG if that happens to you that's amazing! Here's hoping to the start of my transition!  But then again I'll have to wait until 1.5 years in to see any real changes though

Hiya,

There are times however when I feel like 80 ... Paula giggles ...

Good luck with your journey and take it one step at a time.

I am sure that it will be trouble free and you younger girls have such an amazing choice of surgeons nowadays compared to when we older girls transitioned ... But choose wisely ...  :)

I am sure your journey will be great fun as I could do it all over again despite some of the problems along the way.

In fact my journey is not complete as you may well know when I have my revision FFS surgery in Spain on April 6th.

Take care and enjoy life to the full cos I am ...  :)

Hugs

Paula

Hiya,

That will be nice.

I don't have a smart phone but will gladly pm with you.

I am busy today, it's 6.45am here in London, UK but hopefully over the weekend.

But please bear in mind that I am winding down for the big operation in just under 7 weeks time.

Gotta be relaxed and fit at my ripe old age ...  ;)

Have a great day/night ... :)

Hugs

Paula

Hiya,

I hope you had a good night's sleep and are having a lovely day.

Canada is lovely.

I have been to Toronto for hairgrafting with Dr Paul Cotterill ( an awesome surgeon ) and of course been to Niagara Falls.

I have had a very busy day, it's now 6.48pm and time to have a glass of cider or beer and cook dinner.

Then off to bed early because the lounge is being redecorated in the morning and then I have a hospital appointment to see an orthopaedic surgeon for a left foot second  toe operation that was not done well a few years ago.

I don't seem to have much luck with some surgeons be they NHS or private !!!  :o

Anyway speak soon and have a great rest of Friday.

Hugs

Paula
