Liebovitz, as quoted in that piece, says nothing about a third gender; she says "more than two genders." And that's a good thing, because the notion that there is "a" third gender is pretty offensive. From what I've seen, the "third gender" always refers to trans women, as if there were no other trans identities. That erases the identities of trans men, and of any other trans folk who aren't trans women.
There is no gender called "trans."
From my limited exposure to Pink News, it seems to be pretty much a rag... so I guess I'm not surprised that it's staffed by ignorant and thoughtless people.
