And Then They Came for Transgender People

Brynn Tannehill, 2/17/16

When the anti-transgender student bill in South Dakota passed, it was the first step in a plan to eradicate transgender people from American life. Last year, the Family Research Council laid out a five point plan to legislate transgender people out of existence by making the legal, medical, and social climate too hostile for anyone to transition in.

1. States and the federal government should not allow legal gender marker changes.

2. Transgender people should not have any legal protections against discrimination, nor should anyone be forced to respect their identity.

3. Transgender people should not be legally allowed to use facilities in accordance with their gender identity.

4. Medical coverage related to transition should not be provided by the government, or any other entity.

5. Transgender people should not be allowed to serve in the military.

I followed the link in her article. The FRC website says EXACTLY these five things.

I'm not going to sleep very well after reading it.

there sure are those in politics that would love to eradicate us.  And they have been very vocal about it recently which goes to show someone is listening.

Years ago, my favorite political science professor drew a circle on the board.  At 12 on the circle he drew a line.  To the right of the line he put a C for conservative and to the left of the line he put a L for liberal.  Then at 4 o'clock and 8 o'clock he drew two more lines.  He pointed out that as you moved clockwise from 12 people got more conservative and when you moved counterclockwise people got more liberal.  Then he drew a semicircle line between 4 and 8 with an arrowhead on each end.  Here he pointed out were extremists on both sides and said, "Make no mistake, these people will get you killed."  Make no mistake, Family Research Council and other hate groups like this are way past 4 o'clock.  These people are extremist and they WILL kill you if they have a chance.

There are more than enough signals, declarations and now, laws seeking to deny transgender people our basic rights of accommodation.  The simple and easy answer is that love will prevail and we will be recognized and triumph.  That because we are undeniable parts of your family, community and nation.  We will not go quietly into the night or back into the closet.  We will be increasingly visible, accountable and we will endure.

They cannot legislate that which creates us.  We have been and will continue to be essential members of humanity.  The hatred and fearful ignorance fueling discrimination is our real obstacle and we tear that down one heart, mind and state house at a time.   We build community, awareness and demand equity and inclusion every day.  This is our time

This article is extremely well written and I feel as though it is very powerful. I especially appreciated the call for assistance at the end. These people can try to destroy us, but we will fight them tooth and nail until the end. I hope that we are not alone in this fight, and that others feel as I do regarding the power of the ending statements.

It was a bright sunny day in Germany as the Brown shirts marched, Singing their campaign songs as the Jews witnessed the hatred.

It was a famine in Ireland, that tried to crushed the spirit; but not the fight.

I see the refugee camps where the lost and lonely are left to die.

We have choice now. We have communication. We are aware.

We can make changes but it is not up to me to fly your flags.

It is up to YOU.

I have met many politicians, I'm becoming aware of the system.

The system is YOU.

Politicians exist because of support.

Show your support for your opinion. Write letters, complain, demand your rights. Every letter counts.

Guess what emails don't count, hard copy do.

Phone your politician, ask for an interview. Tell them what you think.

Girl up and Man up.

Complain.

After the Brown Shirts got public opinion on their side, they placed the Jews in isolated areas. Then they killed them.

Because no one cared.

Do you care what will happen to us?

Then do something about it.

Sorry for the rant. But we have done this in Australia, Europe. Everywhere.

I fight for my rights as do our armed service people for the rights of our countries.

My rights are fundamental, I am equal to anyone.

If someone tries to deny it.

FIGHT.
