Once you have sex re-assignment surgery, do you need to use dilators for life or just short-term?

The recommendation is that we do it for life, though it becomes needed less and less often.

I've heard stories from people who say the stopped needing it after awhile and others who said they lost depth and width that was painful to regain.
Have you read my short story The Eve of Triumph?

Some form of dilation is a good idea but after years it becomes less important. At some point, once a week is enough BUT if you are sexually active, that can replace dilation. After 20 years, I became over busy and kind of forgot to dilate for about 10 years. It was a bit uncomfortable restarting and it took a few months but I am back where I was before. I have never been sexually active so there was nothing maintaining my size for the years I missed dilation.

it depends on the person. some can get away with not doing it anymore depending on the type of surgery and if they are sexually active
