Cant really help with current university experiences as its a long time ago now that i went to one. One thing to note though is lad culture generally comes with diminished intelligence and is 'pack' like behavior, so on the whole in a university setting you may not encounter it too much. That is not to say it wont sneak in where alcohol diminishes intelligence such as the student union bar or where there are 'pack' gatherings.
The other trigger for laddish behavior is when males have the dominant presence and especially with alcohol, so vertical binge drinking pubs and football (soccer) matches. Generally though its not too big a problem unless your moving in those spaces. However that's not to say if you are read as being trans a "lad" wont use the opportunity to make himself look "good/funny" in front of his "woman" or mates no matter where you are, but those interactions tend to be opportunistic, fleeting in nature and not too dangerous, the damage will be mainly to your confidence rather than physical.
Its also worth noting that laddish culture is not restricted to males, Vertical drinking pubs will have laddish woman in them too.
