Does anyone know how to crochet a hat?

Iv'e been trying to make a hat ever sense i started crocheting and the magic ring doesn't work iv'e tried.
Iv'e looked into video after video i just can't do it any tips? (I really wasn't going to ask this because i'm a guy and i feel silly but i assume i'm not the only one so it's good)

Start small with things like a doily, pot holders or Yarmulkes for your Jewish friends and eventually you'll get the hang of it and be making hats for everyone    I'm putting my order in for a 'Cat in the Hat' hat early to beat the crowd

No hurry though, whenever you feel up to it
