Dealing with Veterans Administration Doctor

Ms DeeDee

I get my health care through the VA, so I presume I have to go through my PCP to get to a therapist.  Has anyone here ever dealt with them on gender issues?  I've never addressed this issue with any doctor before, having only realized it over the past year and having only realized I needed help and possibly HRT over the past couple of months.  I've come out to a total of three people including my spouse so far but it seems that as my acceptance of my gender identity (or at least my acceptance that it's not clear and definitely not so male as I'd led myself to believe), I am happier but at the same time more dysphoric.

Any thoughts on dealing with the VA on these issues?  I've familiarized myself with their policies but exactly what support services are available seemed a little vague.  I managed to get an appointment for a little over a week away.  I don't really get all day to explain this to my PCP and have no idea what experience she has.  We're also supposed to cover an ongoing medical issue in the same appointment as the VA wouldn't let me make two separate ones, though I'm going to tell her this one is more important.

Any help would be wonderful!

Hugs,
DeeDee
