Hey guys, I wanted to ask a quick few questions about Plantestrogens.

Some people have said that they purposefully eat foods high in Plantestrogens while waiting to get their HRT for a ''headstart''. However from what I have read Plantestrogens only Mimic estrogens. Also I thought since I would still be producing T, would that not cause hormone imbalance?

Is it healthy as a pre HRT MTF to try and get extra plantestrogen to help move things along while I wait?

Phytoestrogens make for a weaker effect on receptors ...
don't overdo with doses because of side effects ...

some phytoestrogens stay a while in the body and compete with estrogen for estrogen receptors ... as said making for a weaker effect ...
so you might stop a bit before hrt ...

if in doubt ask a doc ...

Short answer: no.

Long answer: not really, they may have a very small impact over several years but you'd need to be eating them daily and in high quantities. As Laura notes, they are still prone to side effects (such as severe liver damage) if you are taking them in concentrated capsule form.

I am one who tried all kinds of over the counter and herbal remedies back in the early 90s and again last year out of curiosity and with respect to people here and there who swear they work.  Not for me.

Nothing came even close to the well documented and safely acquired results i found with HRT.

So do they have any benefits?

You could make one or two smoothies for a few days with a small amount of blended flaxseed ...

you could stay away from aggressive pastimes like watching aggressive sports ... which might raise testosterone ...

well you could try a few pastimes that bring you into contact with your female side ... like cooking, gardening or being creative ...

and you could do a few things like voice training, trying a few nice clothes .... maybe hair removal ... there are threads on that ...

In general, it's a good idea to stay away from non-bioidentical hormones, and especially non-bioidentical estrogens. Although they come from a natural source, phytoestrogens are not bioidentical. They have a different chemical structure from the estrogens that occur naturally in the human body, and they behave differently. There's not much in the way of published research looking at the effects of taking phytoestrogens long term, but other non bioidentical estrogens (e.g. DES, ethinylestradiol and premarin) can be very dangerous, and are associated with things like blood clots, strokes and heart attacks. By contrast, bioidentical estradiol appears to be much safer (particularly the transdermal and injected forms), with little or no increased risk of blood clots or other adverse effects.
