Gender identity clinic for young people sees referrals double

The number of young people referred to England's only gender identity clinic for under-18s has more than doubled in the past year, new figures show.
The data also shows that nearly twice as many biological girls than boys were referred to the Tavistock Clinic, in London, last year.
Consultant clinical psychologist Dr Bernadette Wren said young people now have more freedom to define themselves.
She told BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour a "social revolution" was happening.

While any positive news is to be celebrated, this item has some particularly interesting points.

The data also shows that nearly twice as many biological girls than boys were referred to the Tavistock Clinic, in London, last year.

Hopefully going some why to dispelling the myth that gender dysphoria is about men wanting to be women.

Then sadly, ending with this:

"But we do need to consider whether there are some ways in which being male and having a male body is particularly attractive in 2016, the beginning of the 21st Century, whether there are any ways in which the social landscape shapes and influences how people feel about their role in life, their body and how they're going to live in that body for the rest of their lives."

There is undoubtedly some journalistic influence here. It's a sad and pathetic point to emphaise. But things are moving slowly in the right direction.
