A ruling today by the U.S. Court of Appeals will have far-reaching effects on the debate over which bathrooms and locker rooms transgender people can use.

In a 2-1 decision handed down Tuesday, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth District ruled in favor of Gavin Grimm, a 16-year-old transgender student in Virginia, who sued when he wasn't allowed to use the men's facilities at his high school.

One step forward. Yay!

Great decision.  The storm clouds are gathering over North Carolina.  Governor McCrory is gonna squeal like a stuck pig when the state is faced with the loss of hundreds of millions of dollars in US Dept of Education funding due to the Title IX violation.

No sympathy for them here.  McCrory and his Bible-thumper friends brought this on themselves.

Great work, Gavin!  Your challenge not only deals with your problem in Virginia.  It's also gonna be felt over the state line in North Carolina.

Sadly, it's the students that are going to suffer the most from this.

I don't think so.  I think the state is going to back down when it becomes clear they are going to lose the case.  Of course, this will be a lot easier if McCrory is voted out of office in November, which seems increasingly likely.

Definitely.  There are any number of people who make mistakes which I'm more than happy to see them earn the consequences for, but their kids deserve enough education/medical/dietary help to have a fair start in life.
When in doubt, ignore the moral judgments of anybody who engages in cannibalism.
