First, if the mother were really willing to let her live as a girl she wouldn't use "he" to refer to her.
Depends upon the child's expressed preferences. She also uses a "boy" name, which suggests that Logan hasn't yet asked for them to use a girl name or female pronouns. Especially with young children, it's important to follow their lead. Unless and until the child has
asked to use a different name and/or different pronouns, doing so really is imposing the adults' idea of the One True Way To Transgender
(tm) upon the child. I don't see that as all that much better than imposing cisnormativity on them.
Actually, that's true with adults, too. When I came out to people at my church, they
asked me if I had a new name I'd rather they use, and when, a few weeks later, I asked them to use my new name, they
asked me if I wanted them to use different pronouns. (At this point, I'm happy either way; I said once we all get used to calling me <female name>, I suspect the pronouns will sort themselves out.)

Second, I hated the "counterpoint" at the end of the article.
Yeah, that's a really annoying journalistic tic. A lot of "mainstream" news media feel compelled to present two sides on every issue, no matter how odious one of them is, in a bid to seem "non-partisan."
