Emma Symonds says she still refers to Logan by his birth name and as her son, but happily obeys his wishes to dress in girls' clothing

When Emma Symonds gets her four-year-old twin boys ready for school, she puts Alfie in trousers and Logan in a pinafore dress, with a pretty scrunchy in his hair.

Her son has been wearing female clothes in public for nearly two years, since Emma agreed he could live full-time as a girl.

And now he has started attending his reception classes in a girl's uniform.

Not earth-shattering news but a sweet story of a life that is still evolving. Please don't attack about the mis-genderings, I think it's sweet how her mom is letting her explore and yes at 4 years old the gender identity may be set but even according to psychologists it may change. I just wish this openness could have been here in the states 50 years ago, but let's face it, the rate of change and acceptance of transgender people is moving at break-neck speed,

Got some problems with this article.

First, if the mother were really willing to let her live as a girl she wouldn't use "he" to refer to her.

Second, I hated the "counterpoint" at the end of the article. This poor little girl's gender shouldn't be subject to the approval of a doctor. Her claim that she's too young to make that decision is not well informed. Children often know their gender years earlier. Given that lack of knowledge, I wonder what qualifies her to condemn children to the prison of living as the wrong gender.

No one EVER tells a cisgender girl she is too young to know her gender.

What if the kid isn't binary at all though? What if they just like "girls" clothes? When the child asks for different pronouns/ name is when parents should change them.

Depends upon the child's expressed preferences.  She also uses a "boy" name, which suggests that Logan hasn't yet asked for them to use a girl name or female pronouns.  Especially with young children, it's important to follow their lead.  Unless and until the child has asked to use a different name and/or different pronouns, doing so really is imposing the adults' idea of the One True Way To Transgender(tm) upon the child.  I don't see that as all that much better than imposing cisnormativity on them.

Actually, that's true with adults, too.  When I came out to people at my church, they asked me if I had a new name I'd rather they use, and when, a few weeks later, I asked them to use my new name, they asked me if I wanted them to use different pronouns.  (At this point, I'm happy either way; I said once we all get used to calling me <female name>, I suspect the pronouns will sort themselves out.)

Yeah, that's a really annoying journalistic tic.  A lot of "mainstream" news media feel compelled to present two sides on every issue, no matter how odious one of them is, in a bid to seem "non-partisan."
